At the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam, Oanh successfully defended her gold medals in all three events. Then, at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, despite a challenging and poorly timed competition schedule, she demonstrated exceptional resilience and determination. In just 20 minutes, Oanh astonishingly claimed back-to-back gold medals in the 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase, leaving her competitors far behind. In 2014, just as she was being recognized as one of the most promising young athletes, Oanh was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis, a kidney condition that put her professional training and competition at risk. She was forced to miss the 28th SEA Games in 2015 in Singapore. But instead of giving up, she chose to persevere — training patiently, rebuilding herself step by step, and eventually returning stronger than ever, achieving a string of spectacular victories.
